Wow what a great day! No big fish but had a great time with my nephew (11 years old) and my brother. Got to witness my nephew catch his first Dolphin and my brother catch his first sailfish.
ended the day with:
1 Sailfish
6 Dolphin - release several and missed a few
2 Skipjack
The highlight of the day for me (other than the sailfish) happened towards the end of the day when
the bite was very slow. I was driving when one rod went down. My brother goes for the rod and my nephew says I will get it. He had not pulled one out of the holder yet so my brother grabbed it. Just then another one goes, this time nephew says I will get it as he pulled the rod out of the holder. Seeing him do that just about made my day. He pulled it out and had it under control like he had done it before. Well it was pretty chaotic at that point but I didn’t get much time to enjoy watching because another rod goes off. Now it is total chaos. With the two of them busy I had to leave the wheel and grab the third rod and make sure the hook set. Well the fish that my brother went after didn’t hook up so he took over my rod and I went back to drive the boat and got to watch the two of them fight their fish. What a site I got to see. my nephew fighting a fish by himself and both of them trying to keep the fish out of the other 5 lines in the water. We all looked professional in the end. Nephew got his to the boat so I helped get his in the box, then he went up and drove the boat while I helped brother get his in the boat. Two Dolphin in the box, no tangled lines and we were still fishing! This is good for us as we are still learning. We mised one but it was pretty cool to watch a father son double.
