Left Shem Creek at 530AM with Ona Mission in search of grouper. Few net throws near Morris Island and couple drops at the cans gave us more than enough bait for the two of us. Lines in around 8am after fairly smooth ride out to deeper water.
Bite was pretty solid on live bait with several grouper and way too many those endangered red things. Few strawberry grouper were vented and released as well as the reds. Live menhaden seemed produce the most quality fish and that was a new one to me as I had always believed in the power of pinfish grouper fishing! Cut shrimp landed some trophy vermillion of sizes I have never seen, well over 20inches, and few triggers. To my amazement we kept away from trash fish most the day with only handful of AJ and sharks. The daymaker came early on first spot we anchored on, after I lost a battle to a fish on drop before I pulled up a personal best gag grouper. The best part of this fish was he had TWO menhaden in his mouth, which I can guarantee was from the drop I made before. Anchoring has some amazing advantages!
Long report for one picture but hey I am really bad at video editing so this all I have for now!

Ona mission listens well! Congratulations

“Back home we got a taxidermy man. He gonna have a heart attack when he see what I brung him”
Nice gag but they grow them small here in sc. we catch mondo black belllys in Florida wish they had a better gag population here. The scamp bight is better here in South Carolina and of all the grouper the scamp is probably my favorite to eat but it’s hard to find any grouper that taste bad lol. Sounds like a nice trip congrats
Just reel or get broke
I’ll bet there is a better fishery here but it’s not talked about!
Boatpoor I would love to see some facts cause I have yet to see consistent 40+ pound black bellys caught on trips. I live in this state and fish here often but I’ve done plenty of digging in Florida and have yet to see where the gags here even compare close to what I catch and my family catches out of Sebastian Florida. Now I believe the scamp growth is better here and more plentiful then what i catch down south
Just reel or get broke
Sounds like you need to move on down to Florida noslack you know to better fishing an all
Interceptor4 I have a place in Florida it’s not about better fishing I just made a simple opinion that the gags here seem to be more on the small side then normal if you look at the average size of gags brought to the dock or posted online.not taking any credit away from fishingduo on their successful day and nice fish.
Just reel or get broke
Good day on the water! I’d love to get into some nice grouper like that one day. Congrats.
Noslack you trailer your boat back and forth from sc to fl? That’s got to get expensive!
No polardancer have a boat in Stuart florida
Just reel or get broke
Congrats on the personal best grouper. How deep were you bottom fishing. we saw very few grouper in 100 feet. We were thinking they must have gone deeper.
Thank you

Man, its a lot cheaper to trail than to run the ditch !
that was my guess 120 feet. we could not find any shoot able gags in 100 feet. the water must be too warm.
Thank you
