5/31

Left at 3:30am to a much better than expected ocean. Lines in before sunrise in 150ft. Had a wahoo come out of the water when it hit the flat line but the hook pulled after it took a bunch of line. It was on a mono leader that was torn up when we got it back so probably would have lost it anyway. Then nothing until we go into much deeper water. Had a shark follow a nice bull we hooked to the boat. We knew we had one shot with the gaff with the shark a few feet away from the boat. Nice head shot and got the whole fish on the boat. Reset the first line and something heavy went deep for a long fight. Almost cut the line knowing that it was most likely the shark but had to see it to know for sure. Ended with 6 gaffers and one shark. Had more action deeper and caught all 6 in 1.5hrs with the rest of the day slow. Anyone catching in the 150-350ft range. I have not done much in less than 800ft in the 3 trips we have taken this season. Any guesses on the weight. Just curious.

I am still impressed at how far you get out in that key west. Leaving from wapoo? Using extra fuel?

Still leaving from Wapoo and no extra fuel. Keep looking at newer bigger boats but love everyday I have had my key west. It handles chop well and have been able to put a lot of fish on her in the last 5 years. I think next year will be the year to move up a couple of sizes but cant see selling my key west.

It’s obviously working for you! Keep up the good work!

Dusky or Silky. More likely a dusky.
