Was torn between Saturday and Sunday, glad we picked Saturday. Wettest ride I ever had, but otherwise it was relatively comfortable for the 21’ Hydra Sport. Averaged about 21 kts on the way out and 24 on the way in. Waves were managable, no bone jarring hits but the spray was flying. Anyway, lines in at 350’ and trolled to a group of 5 sportys in about 450’. Figured they knew what they were doing. Hung out there for a couple of hours w/ 0 knockdowns. Didn’t see them catch anything either. Gave up and went shallower. Lines back in at 250’ and trolled towards CHS. FINALLY hooked up a slinger at noon in 180’. Got her in the boat and circled back to that depth and got a gaffer about 30 minutes later. 1st one hit the old school daisy chain, 2nd on skirted ‘hoo. Two in the boat after looking hard at the skunk was a big comeback for us. A buddy went Friday and only got 2 also, both in 240’ so they seem to be a bit shallow.
Oh yeah, Both fish hit right after we switched the music to the Drive By Truckers, 2nd time that’s happened to us so we’re gonna stick w/ DBT.
