Ran out thru the pea soup fog past the ledge and started fishing in about 600 ft of water, first fish on before all lines could get out. Found lot of scattered weeds and temp breaks and picked up a few more fish on them then moved out deeper and came across several beautiful looking weed lines with temp breaks off them and started picking up dolphin right away on it. Worked up and down it most the day and ended up keeping 20 dolphin with a lot of double hook ups. most were in the 15,20 lb range with 4 at about 30lbs. Was gaffing one of the big ones and hauling it over the gunwale when it thought it had other ideas and decided to smack me right in the nuts with its tail and drop me to my friggin knees and into the fetal position on the spot, the fish then came off gaff, hit cockpit floor and was thrashing about madly when our buddy grabbed a bat and was gonna go after it and I just looked at him and gasped with my nuts still in my throat, “don’t you dare, that b@tch is all mine”! Needless to say, she may have won the first battle, but my and my club definitly won the war!! As soon as I could get out of the fetal position I proceded to open up a can of whoop @ss on that fish like there was no tomorow!! I think I saw some blood spots on the bow pulpit 30 ft away!
Did some tagging on some schoolies for Don Hammond and called it a day and ran 73 miles back in. (and yes, after getting smacked by that one dolphin, I smiled every time I pushed the dart in one to tag it! evil huh:) Beautiful glassy day out on the pond.
Had a friend/family with us that dosen’t get to fish offshore much so was a real treat getting him on all the fish and sending him home with a cooler of filets!
