Two great days on the pond. Friday started great and ended tough with the wind and waves. Saturday started tough and ended great. Only a two man crew, JB and I, on Friday slowed our progress somewhat on putting fish in the boat, but still managed 5 Mahi, 2 Skipjacks and 2 Almaco Jacks. Saturday’s start was tough…I thought all the fog was in my head from the beat down we took the day before…anyway, it was worth it to jump back in the game. Myself, JB, DeltaOneMate and Greenhorn Kyle arrived in 300’ @ 8am to pass a sailboat on a thin weedline and to our dismay, he was trolling and had a fish on. We had not seen the first flyer or any other sign of life, the water temp was 72 and we debated for a quick moment about whether to stop. Well, the sailboat was catching them so why not. We worked the weedline back and forth for the next two and half hours before finally getting our 5th line in the water. Wow, what an action packed morning. By 11am, we had 23 Mahi in the box, with 15 or so being gaffers, and the bite slowed . We finally enjoyed a few cold beverages and cold fried chicken for the next couple hours. Then ran to Comanche to try for some Vermillion. Only got one as we couldn’t get through the 4lb BSB’s. It was just laughable the size of the BSB’s. Unfortunately, it seems as though the moratorium on the BSB’s is causing the BSB’s to push out the other fish. Some of the area’s around Comanche have been automatic for Vermillion in the past, not so this year.

This is the 2nd Mahi Kyle has ever caught, the first being 5 minutes earlier. He caught it on a spinning rod too, pretty good fight. We let him know that the fishing is ALWAYS like this offshore. ‘

Anyway, awesome day on the water with “The J Team”. Going to try our luck again “Friday 13th”.
