Started the day by losing steering right outside the slip. Got that fixed and 5 minutes latter the starboard motor dies. Was a fuel issue that we solved and we were on our way. Took two hours till lines went in. Marked some nice bait in 400 ft and spent some time on it. That only produced one sail that stayed black and didn’t eat. Pushed out to 500 ft and thats where the action started. Captain Abe started calling out fish all over the place. Both dredges, short and long right were being attacked. Buck and Matt both promptly set the 7/0 circle hooks and the sails simultaneously skied. Not wanting to be left out I grabbed a pitch rod and as soon as the naked cleared the wash we had a triple going. Could have hooked more but only 4 pob. We fought the first 2 fish and poped them off. The third one ended getting wrapped in the Chinese fire drill going on. By the time I got her to the boat she was finished. First and only sailfish that I ever killed was stroked and smoked.

About an hour later, her we go again. Matt and Buck do a ditto on the hookup. That made it 5 sails on the day. Instead of pitching for the second triple of the day I decided to play camera man. Remember that without pics it didn’t happen.

Iceing on the cake came next. We pushed out a little deeper and a blue came up and looked at the left chain. We tried to tease her up with the left short but she peeled off. I grabbed the left long and put the reel in free spool, then started cranking the naked back in through the long rigger clip. Capt. Abe yells out “shes coming, fire her up” I jerked the bait away from her and she lit up blue and exploded on the bait. The fish grey hounded about 50 yards and then sounded. She let me reel her to the boat in a fast backdown and Matt touched the leader of the 30
