I called Barron’s Outfitters in Columbia about lining two 30TW’s. They have Ande and Berkley line; no Momoi, Penn, or other bigger offshore “names”. Sorry, and maybe my ignorance is showing (once again) but I’ve never associated Berkley with saltwater…
I’m just wanting some opinions on the line before I go waste $100 on line.
Buy some line and do it myself, or just go get their stuff for $0.05/yd?
I know a lot of people on here do not approve of Ande line or Dick’s, but I get my 6/0 senators spooled with 50# ande line from Dick’s for less than $8.00 a reel. I ask them to put it on tight and go above the rim a little so I can really tighten it up out on the water. They will put right at 600 yards on each reel. I am not rich, so that is why I go there. I would go local if it wasn’t such a difference in price. I have yet to have a problem with the Ande line. The specs for the reel say only 475 yards of 50#, but I think that is a bit conservative…

Ande is good stuff as well. Don’t let the popular opinion sway you away from what has been catching fish for a long time. Personally, I got Momoi line one time. I know there are different variant of Momoi line, but what I had IMO sucked.

That’s the way I think also. I’m no pro, and I don’t go chasing the big blue suits either, but I haven’t had a single problem catching the species that I have went after. I have heard people say that Ande line has bad line memory. That may be true, but when I troll at 7mph, I don’t think line memory is an issue anyway. At least I haven’t noticed any bad line memory from the Ande line compared to other lines I have fished.

Nothing wrong with Ande. I’ve never put Berkley on any of my big stuff.
Just take those reels to Haddrell’s Point and load them up with 50lb high vis Moimoi.
Keep it clean and it can last for two seasons. If you fish a lot, replace every year.
Costs a few dollars more, but you get what you pay for and you get the expertise of the Haddrell’s staff to answer whatever questions you may have too. Good people there.

I couldn’t agree more! They have always treated me great!! Now, if they could just load my reels up for close to the same price, I wouldn’t think twice about driving there and have them do it. I do usually try to go there for anything else though…

All I have to say is, Berkley walks the walk, and talks the talk! Look at all the innovative new baits they’ve produced. You think they want you using inferior line? You can buy a comparable rod, to the high $ stuff for 1/3 the price? No connection to Berkley, just glad they don’t mind helping us sportsmen out!! Seeya, Scott
I like Berkley. I use their Big Game 30# when trolling for striper. When I fished for the big cats back in the day, I used the same, and I caught a bunch of 50+ lbers. It has not let me down yet.
I like the Ande 50# line for trolling offshore with my 6/0s. If I am using smaller reels for flatlines and such, I’ll use the BBG 30#, and double line it with a bimini…

I have berkley on about everything I have and never had any problems. Fish never knew the difference. The biggest I use is 40lb and the AJ’s hate the stuff. I got great deals when Barton & Burwell went out of business the big spools for a fraction of the price.
When I lived in Hawaii, almost all of us used exclusively Berkley Big Game. That stuff is pretty tough and is not bad for memory. We were casting approx 100 yards w/ 80# mono on Penn Senators, so lack of memory was very important.
