Neighbor just got a motor and not sure how long since last run. bought 2 gallons of gas and added 5 oz of oil. He cleaned the carbs but said he din’t mess with the adjustment screws. Cranked the motor and it is blowing white smoke I was thinking it is running lean but also figured the oil/gas ratio is ok. Any thoughts or ideas on this one?

White smoke could be water. Try a compression check, might be a head gasket or cracked cylinder. Sure hope not, but it would help narrow it down. How much have you run the motor?

I haven’t seen or touched it. Belongs to a neighbors brother. neighbor borrowed my hose to see if the motor would crank. It did but he said there wasn’t any signs of pumping water so he shut it off. Then he bought some gas and added oil after he dumped the old gas. Cleaned the carbs, put back together and cranked again
. I don’t know if it smoked the first time or not.

white smoke will be water
blue smoke is oil
black smoke is fuel
