Is this only safe for use out to charleston 60/reefs etc… or can this be a great option for the ledge and trolling. We had an EPIRB on our last boat and a replacement battery was like $700!! I didn’t know if this was being used as a primary emergency device, or if it’s just a secondary nice-to-have.

They work everywhere. Used the “track” feature all across Australia. And at 35000’ on numerous plane trips. Works great.

However, I never go fishing without a real EPIRB. Had 2 spots break over the past few years. Left one in my pocket and went swimming for 10 minutes…water got into it and fried it. Everything was properly tightened, screwed, etc. Doesn’t build confidence for a bailout situation. Another broke from “impact”.
