54lb Dolphin Gyotaku

Fishcrazy caught a monster 54 lb dolphin last week and brought it over so that I could print it. I ended up needing two sheets of rice paper to print it. I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I do!

That’s awesome. Did you color the eye in by hand or does it take that well in the process?

Thanks! I remove the eye before the printing process so it leaves a white circle in which I can detail in the eye later. I have a few extra prints of this fish that I will be using watercolors on.

This is very well done. Great job!

Where did they gaff it? If Got2to go was on board that fish probably could have been a slinger.

LOL, you know it!

“mr keys”

I received the dolphin with half of it already filleted, but there appeared to be no gaff mark on the side I printed, so I assumed it was gaffed on the filleted side. If there is a gaff mark I can attempt to cover it up pretty well, or like my spearfishing prints I can mark it with a red dot if it was a well placed gaff.

Thanks again for printing it brother mani! Looks badass can’t wait to pick it up…still think these look WAY better than mounts or replicas.

Fishcrazy,

Awesome fish and a great job on the print by freediver! I caught my 38 pounder last year in Okinawa Japan and have it proudly displayed outside your Dad’s office to admire on a daily basis. I plan on framing it soon.

I really like how the color was done on that print! I am going to start using oil based inks, which should really make the print look lifelike in terms of colors.

That is real cool! Nice work!

That is the first I’ve heard, or seen of “fish prints”…I love it. Do you have to keep the fish, or how long does it take to copy it? Just wondering if the meat would go bad. I’d love to print a nice fish I caught, but would hate to lose the meat. Rice paper probably doesn’t eat as well.

Thanks, Steve!!! Your print looks awesome with the color…I am sure my Dad loves looking at it everyday haha

Bwulmer-The best part about fish prints is you do get to keep all of the meat!! In fact we had a cookout the next day with the filets from this fish and it was delicious.
