Fished with a great crew as usual with two newcomers on the boat, Paul and his son Alex who just graduated highschool, Sellsfish, and Jerms. Got a late start out of wappoo cut and cleared the rocks around 5:30. Both new guys did quite well with Alex catching his first dolphin ever, a nice bull. There were a lot of firsts for him yesterday including his first reef donkey which he soon realized where they got their name from after fighting about a 15 lber. He didn’t believe us that they got to the hundo lb range. Fishing was a little slow in the AM for us, but talking with the “Screw Work” and Edisto Fisher on the radio made for some slow trolling antics and a very entertaining day on the water. There was some trash talked, and I’d have to say that those guys ended up doing a little better on the troll than we did. I’ll have to see those pictures to verify of course, but there were talks of a 60+ lb Wahoo and a box full of coreys. I guess we soon will see.
Found some decent water showing signs of life near the Royal Terrace with lots of little flyers and fish breaking the surface. Small temp break yielded us a couple of nice dolphin there. Caught a few kings here and there and had a big baracuda come up and eat one of our released bee liners next to the boat. Lots of life on the ocean yesterday. Scattered weeds in some places, but nothing too defined. It was trying though. Current was moving a little too swift for us to do anything productive on the bottom fishing although Paul did get broken off by a big fish on the bottom around 3.
We also saw what we belived to be a mako free jumping a few hundred yards behind us. I don’t know how high one of those things can jump, but it was clearing the horizon line. ■■■■ impressive sight. Jumped at least 5 or 6 times. There were other boats in the area but he did not appear to be hooked up.
Ended the day with 9 dolphin, 2 kings, and an assortment of bottom fish including a tilefish. Nothing to write home about but all in all, a good day on the wate
And you mis-heard over the radio. We said 16, not 60.
Our hoo was probably between 25 and 35 lbs reelly.
Just as an aside: I see that you completely ignored my suggestions for some different sonar settings the last time you posted a screenshot of your fishfinder…
Good job out there, and sorry I didn’t get back to you on the phone last night. It got late as we were getting everything squared away back at the dock.

Nice day Sailfish. Those Mako’s will freaking sky. Saw one jump about 15ft a few years ago. I obviously didn’t take this pic but it will give you an idea

You know that was Phin and PurposeOne and EdistoFisher we kept talking to on the radio, right? Those guys are a real hoot!
Jerms hasn’t sent me any pictures yet, but if there are some good ones, I’ll be sure that you get them. I don’t know if I’m fishing this weekend or not as I’ve just been informed of my wife’s neice’s graduation on Saturday. We’ll have to play that one by ear. I can get your info from Paul.
Turn the auto settings off on that Lowrance and put the depth range on manual- 140-180’ with clarity and noise rejection stuff off and sensitivity (i.e. gain) at 69%, and you’ll see how you can tell what size (and maybe even type) fish are down there. I would say to just tune the sounder like Sellsfish knows how to do, but from using the lowrances with the same transducer 23sailfish has, I can tell you what works best for me in case you ever want to try. I find that it makes it easier for me to guess what fish are down there then.
Maybe if you ever find time in your busy schedule, you can come fish with us and show me first hand. Hurry though, the microminimahi’s aren’t gonna be here forever! [:0]
we saw something sky in the air once last saturday at the 120’ mark but did not know what it was. perhaps it was a mako as well??? my avatar is a pic of a mako we caught last year while trolling. those sure are some strong bastards

Gut Wrench standing by on 68…
Sellsfish said that he wants to go out with “guns a’ blazin’”…whatever that means. So, we just might keep on fishin’
i was thinkin the same thing, then i decided maybe we will take the boat to Fl in the winter, fish for sails…then again maybe i will just sell it,thats what they really want us to do…
It seems i have an interweb stalker…nice
keep following me around you may actually learn something…
“Back home we got a taxidermy man. He gonna have a heart attack when he see what I brung him”
Good luck with that; I rarely get the pictures that he takes much less the videos. I think he has to get his little lady to show him how to pull 'em off the camera and put them into the puters.
