6/06/08 Offshore (with Pics! ! !)

Late report. Big thanks to Salthunter to make this one possible. This was my first offshore trolling trip.

We left Shem Creek 4:15AM and put lines in around 6AM about 38-40 miles out. First hookup in less than 15mins.

Lost another boatside after a coordination failure (We laughed about it later). He is in the first 2 photos taken through the canopy posts. To make up for it a short time later, Salthunter caught a nice bull (30.8lbs) on a balleyhoo and small skirt. He gave us a few airshows including a couple boatside. He went ape sh#t after I missed him with the 1st time with the gaff and took off some line. The 2nd was true got him in the boat.

A couple more small dolphin. Trolled for a bit 'til the bite slowed and moved 15+ miles out. Few more dolphin. We decided to hit a bottom spot on the way back and dropped a couple bottom rigs and noticed a dolphin was circling our boat. I cast a yozuri minnow 3-4 times and no luck. Salthunter said something like “Do it like this…”, takes the rod, casts it the first time and POW!! got him. After the schooling session was over, we made our way back.

Great day on the water and a smooth ride back. Has to be ranked as one of my favorite fishing trips ever.

We also caught a small cuda that we released.

Saw some other cool stuff too…

very nice bull and pics of him as well

nice action shots!
