Had an awesome day on Saturday. My cousin Nick and I decided to give it try and put together a crew of four more (Strubey, Krantz, Curt and Richard) and pushed away from the dock at about 420 to meet a rougher than expected ride out. Made the ride out at 17-24 and decided to pull back at 120 ft and put out the spread with recent reports of fish being caught shallower than we’ve been fishing. Some fliers and scattered weeds but not anything really promising but we had a slinger in the box in the first 45 minutes or so. Still nothing around so we pushed on off, saw a white jumping in 240 ft but couldn’t get him to take anything we were offering. Pushed on off and found a small StyroFoam cooler with a ton of bait under it that produced a couple fish. In the excitement we lost the little cooler but in the process of trying to find it we found a 4x4. It was about 930-10 am and from that point on it was non stop action. The spread filled with color and we boated three nice fish on the first pass. Pitched at them with spinning gear for a while and caught a few more. Trolled that board, a weedline that had lots of color under it and found another board at about 2 in 650 ft. that was loaded with fish. Ran through the rest of the 5 packs of ballyhoo we started with and left them biting when we couldn’t put another one in the box. At one point Krantz said it was like fishing a suped-up bream bed…after he caught a slinger on a bare hook. Ocean slicked up nice and we were able to run to the hill at 30-32. Great day with great friends and family.
This is my brother in-law Richard, it was the first time he’s been offshore…I think we might have spoiled him.
Congrats to you young guns you are the future of a sport we all love. Couldn’t ask for more a great trip ,lots of fish, and fun with family and freinds. Glad you boys had a safe trip
