6/14 bottom fishing - cobia and grouper

Took some friends from the east side out fishing on Sunday and none of them had been before so I was basically running the whole show. I spent most of the day baiting hooks and offering pointers but at least we anchored on the hot spot on the first try and it was fish on for the rest of the day. We fished live bottom and got all of the usual critters as well as a grouper and cobia on jigs.
It worked out well that the crew thought catching 30 amberjack on spinning gear -each- was the coolest thing ever. If not for them then we wouldn’t have caught the grouper and cobia. Our lady angler even stepped up and hooked and landed the cobia by herself. Cobia came in the boat green but Adam was on it in an instant with the club and in one hit the fish was making derp face - perfect brain shot. I didn’t ask them if I could post their pictures so I’ll refrain this time but you have all seen a bunch of bottom fish anyways.
Check out my salt baked fish in the cooking forum.

Caught all of the AJs, cobia, and grouper on butterfly jigs on a pair of these Fin Nor OFS 6500s.

I thought I’d go ahead and add some useful information for anyone heading out this week. The spot we anchored on was full of life and I could see the schools of bait and vermillion on the screen. Other spots that were very close by and that usually hold fish were barren. Other boats noticed the same thing. I’m not sure what was going on. I could see awesome ledges on the other spots but not the first fish on the sonar and test baits were untouched. Hopefully they will spread back out soon.
