I know by the number of boats out yesterday and how often everyone was moving that the bottom fishing was very slow. We were covered up with boats most of the day and the bottom bite was terrible. The atlantic sharpnose sharks were so thick we had them coming up and surrounding the boat at times. The only bottom fish we kept that was caught on hook and line was one small Vermillion Snapper. Not so great.
Diving on the other hand did bring home the groceries but it was still slow. A nice grouper, a retarded hogfish, and a box full of lobster finished out the day. The seas were amazingly flat and it was a wonderful day to be out floating in the Atlantic.
This hogfish only weighed 15lbs but had the head of a 25lb fish. Look at how the back slopes down. Thats not normal so I think he got a beat down when he was growing up and didn’t develop right.
Entry hole on the other side was in the head so it was a great shot.
Lots of lion fish out there recently. Erik on my boat got stung and so did capt Newman on the Miss Emily. It’d be nice if you could turn them in for a bounty or at least a credit for your fishing license or doe tags or something.

Jordan it is fairly easy to get a commercial license for lionfish. Several people at DNR could steer you in the right direction. Nice lobsters and wacky hogfish and that Gag in the cooler should have lived a few more seasons to grow a little. Vis looks good. Thanks for the report and glad someone got out there
