6/19 Deli....Sowpen

Fished offshore of the Deli and Sowpen today. Not a hot bite, very spread out… But we ended up with a decent catch.

3 Wahoo

2 Yellowfin

6 small dolphin

1 for 2 on sails

saw a free jumping blue and another blue feeding on small dolphin. That was cool to watch. I’ll add some pics tomorrow. I’m going to bed. Back at it tomorrow.

How did you find the wahoo? I’ve been out several times, but I can’t catch one for nothing.

~Offshore is where I will always belong~

Caught 2 on a wireline with a 48oz. lead and med. balyhoo black/purple sea witch.

We got our tuna bites in the middle of the day on a weedline. We missed 2 more that didn’t get the hook.

My wireline is a 6/0 Penn senator rigged with 80lb. soft wire line connected to a snap swivel.

To the snap swivel I attach a 48oz. torpedo lead with 40 feet of 150lb. mono and another snap swivel.

Then I add my double hook ballyhoo/Ilander combo rigged with 5 feet of #9 wire to the swivel at the end of the mono.
It’s a lot to wire to the boat, but it flat catches fish consistently.

hey capt. john. not a bad day, i’ve two questions for you. #1 - do you wrap your trolling weight with anything like a squid shell or any hair??

and #2 - when do you think you might need a ride-along mate for a day or two. i can make a trip down to HH, i’d love to fish with you and all i need is a mahi steak or two.

how do you like braid vs wire… line…

#1 Nope…don’t want to give them another target. Just what i need is a big hoo to hit that and kink it up or break it.

#2 Sure…but we don’t go to the stream much down here. This could easily have been our last trip of the season.

I like braid ok,but I’ve just been using wire line for so long and it always catches. Also, it’s ten times easier to trip a planer with when I pull them.

that was sarcasm. I thought you did a pretty good job of telling them what you do at just 3# lead, meat & lure. But thanks for the additional advice

john - had a beverage the other night w/ a guy who has crossed lines w/ you in the past. he is planning on heading to the big island for the season coming up. let me know when you want to come up this way and chase some fish. perhaps a swording adventure… good going on your day, particularly the charlies.

Thanks man. I’ll take you up on that. Who was it you were talking to?
