My wife was away on business for our 26th so I went out on the Fishin’ Mission with owner,Stocky, and 4 of our good friends. We ran straight out in a 3-4ft quatering chop to 300ft and fished a small weedline for 2.5hrs.Only caught 3 gaffers there so we ran in to 240ft where we had seen a 1deg break while running out.We pulled the baits past an old countertop in the break and it was green underneath with gaffers. We were in the meat for 1.5hrs and had caught all we wanted with 30Ws so we pulled up and got out the 12# spinning reels with GLoomis rods.Caught and released ~2dz slingers and gaffers and tagged 5 for Dr Hammond.Bored with the bailing,we decided to try trolling with the spinning rods and just a ballyhoo or cigar hooked thru the nose at 4kts to get the baits skipping along behind the propwash. The gaffers on that break were charging the baits 2 & 3 at a time.BIG fun!We had to run down 2 different gaffers to keep from getting spooled LOL.Seas were 3-4ft and water temp was 77-79deg.Tally was 25 gaffers,4 slingers,1 cuda,1 almaco jack,1 rainbow runner, and 1 tripletail.Fun day with GOOD friends on a comfortable 35’ Cabo express and came home with 3gals of filets along with using all my tags. Can’t have a better anniversary imo.Oh,…and my wife got in at 930pm instead of after midnight:wink:…I guess it did get better.![]()
