Went out this morning with the expectation of it being a “little” rough WRONG it was VERY rough on the way out. But took the 4 man crew (with a 2 man chumming crew we will call them chummer #1 and Chummer #2  Headed straight out to the ledge to look for any signs of life. Picked up 3 cuda pretty quick. Trolled around a bit pushing out to deeper waters. In pretty much white caps. With chummer #1 and #2 trying to hold down anything possible. Just about made the decision to head back in when the seas started to calm down. So we push on in 430’ I see what I’m looking for a nice weed line make the turn to run it and BAM!!! single…double…triple…quad now its on. Chummer #1 and #2 trying to sleep themselves better we put 2 in the boat tuna. Work the weed line the rest of the day (screen looks like a 3 yr old with an etch a sketch) Slinger mahi left and right hitting as doubles and triples the chum twins do what they can between naps did cost us 11 fish. Lost a nice bull at the side of the boat break off. I learn a lesson today goto gaff a decent fish and it comes out of my hand GAFF GONE!!! lesson…put a second on the boat. Chum twins feeling better and one says THATS A BIG FISH a min later WHAM and its on 20 mins later (gaffless…will never hear the end of it) we’re lucky enough to tail grab the biggest one we’ve had in the boat. Perfect kicker bull for a really good day. Glad I didnt call it and head in now

Nice fish how many did you end up with

That’s a nice fish. Hope to see more of those this year. I didn’t know chumming worked trolling but it obviously does. Thanks for the report.

Heck yeah man, NICE haul!

That’s a hell of a fish to get in the boat without a gaff – sounds like a good trip!

Wow- did you get a weight on that one? Nice catch.

Hydra-Sport 3300VX

Got the final tally plus 24 total with the big boy going 55lbs minus 1 gaff 1 planer 3 lures 2 sets of stomach content. It was quite a challenge without the gaff. Evidently trolling and chumming works :sunglasses:

Stud Bull!!! Way to stick with it!

Your goanna make me go trolling this weekend with that report.

Way back in the day, while bottom fishing on the Carolina Clipper and Thunderstar, we used to hang a Menhaden oil drip off the down-current end of the boat. Then in addition to our bottom fishing, we would let out a couple of surface rigs baited with tiny fish we caught.

The menhaden drip often turned on the Dolphin and we caught a couple of Cobia like that too. And too many Amerjack and Cudas…

It’s not exactly chumming and trolling for Dolphin, but sort of similar.

you were lucky to land that one without a gaff, nice work

Great work!

Nice grab, I am sure the old hands and wrist were saying “Dude what are you thinking”
