Lucky enough to host a Sells family outing: Mrs Sells, Ryan and the living legend himself, Sellsfish. Headed south w/ the idea of pretty much filling the fish box. Great live bottom at 90-100ft. Dropped the hook and everyone got hit on virtually every drop. ARS, b-liner, trigger, pinks, BSB, AJ and barracuda. Sells, of course, was the “hero” of the day: Ryan had an AJ at the boat - 15lbs maybe -that was jumped by a big cuda. The cuda took about half the AJ and would not let go. Sells blindsided it with a gaff and tossed him in the box. The cuda weighed out at 37lbs. Now you have to know I wouldn’t even think about doing something like that (I don’t think there is a Medicare billing code for dumb fish bites). However, as I think about it I shouldn’t have been surprised - a couple of weeks ago Sells went eyeball to eyeball with a hammerhead that I got to the boat after a monumental battle. Sells, looking for a photo opp, grabbed the leader and pulled the hammers head up out of the water. The hammer wasn’t huge but at 8-9ft was big enuf to hurt you bad. So on this trip I figure (after twenty something years) he was/is still trying to show-off for Mrs Sells. Trolled back towards the 60 and had consistant action on kings with most hits on the planer.
Low point of the day was having a big sporty take a collison course on us (we were anchored). He passed us at 20-30 yrds at crusing speed. He got our numbers and rocked us pretty good in the process. Hope ot find him trolling some day and get a little payback.
Overall, a great day - lots of fish and lots of laughs.
