We had another good day out on the pond in my big 20’ boat . We pretty much headed out on a heading between 226 and EB. We started out in 130’ around 0530. Put a lure in that I usually use for striper and the reel was screaming before I could get another in. That happened 3 times. The first 2 were kings and the third was a small gaffer mahi. We ran 4 baits and 2 lures. All our fish were caught on the lures except 2. We had plenty of hits on the lures including a BFT that we lost at the boat . It was probably 8 - 10 lbs. I wasn’t really so concerned about the BFT because it was part of a double hookup and the other fish was a sail that put on one heck of a show. That was the second sail in 4 trips on my boat. The sail hit a red/white islander way back. All the rods we used are the same ones I use trolling for striper. The sail was caught on a 7’ med/heavy Shakespeare Power Rod with a Penn Senator 6/0 reel. The rest of the fish were caught on similar rods with my smaller striper reels. We ended up with 6 mahi (one released to grow up), 1 sail, 2 kings and two gaff and release cudas. Most of the bigger fish were caught in around 225’ - 275’. The biggest mahi was close to 25 lbs. and the biggest king was close to 40".

We had an interesting time with the sail. I would never want to bring a sail in the boat, but yesterday we had no choice. He had ran close to 250 - 300 yards of line out and my buddy battled him for a long while. When we had him beside the boat he looked as if he was shot. Wrong! I was getting my gloves when he decided to run a circle out and around to the back of the boat. He decided to jump up between the motor and back of the boat right into the boat with us. That was an intense moment. We quickly covered his eyes and he calmed down as the hook fell out. We hurried up and put him back in the water and revived him and he swam off and down strong. Just goes to show you that you never know when those fish are going to catch a second wind. I’m just glad he swam off

Sounds like a fun day. Sailfish are alot of fun. Congrats on the day. Any pics coming?

4.85 miles to the gallon??? WOW.

The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad. </font id=“size2”>

F150s on 20’ boats can be very efficient.

Congrats on your good day Lynn.

“Small boat” does it again! Nice work!!!

Is your boat for sale? It sure seems to raise the bills! Congrats!

Thanks guys!
Here are a couple pics. The one of the sail was taken with a phone, so it’s not the best. My friend K.L. is in both the pics. I know I will catch heck for the sail pic, but as I stated in my previous post, I would never want to bring a sail in the boat. It wanted to go for a boat ride I guess . I would have had more pics at home, but the batteries died in the camera.

If the money is right!

No, I couldn’t sell it. I have had too many good times and caught alot of fish on her. Although, I wouldn’t mind to have a little bit bigger one.

Nice fish for a 20’er!! Congrats! I have Yammi F150 on my Sea Pro Bay 21 and get almost that same gas mileage if I keep it between 4000-4400 RPM’s. Wish I had the b5lls to take it out farther.

Thanks! It sure was exciting, especially when he decided to hop in the boat. I hated he was out the water, but I guess he was in control, not us two guys. Maybe if we had a third person that was at the controls, we could have powered away from the sail. Who knows…
