6/7 First Trip

Headed out Saturday around 4:45. Had the gas station had ice we would have been on our way at least 15 minutes earlier. This was my first trip beyond 20 miles in this boat and the first trip ever for my “co-captain”. Lines were in the water by 7:30 and first knock down at 8:15 which yielded a King. 30 minutes later another knock down brought us a peanut mahi. While it was a small one, this was the first mahi landed on my boat and the first mahi my buddy had ever caught. Needless to say we were pumped. At around 9:00 I watched a larger mahi come into the spread, he missed on the first try so I fed him a little and bang he was on. A few minutes later we had mahi number 2 in the box. Things went cold for the next 2 hours and we turned around and headed back to our starting point. Half way back and another knock down, this was the strongest of the day. The line was just peeling off and I was having visions of a break off or getting spooled. My co-captain did an awesome job working the fish without too much pressure and thankfully so because this one was a Wahoo. After making a few more passes we ended the day with 2 mahi,1 Wahoo, 1 King, 1 Barracuda, 1 Little Tuny and a couple of misses. Headed to the hill at 1:00 and had a great ride in. Thanks to Daniel at The Charleston Angler for all his tips in getting this offshore newbie out there with the knowledge to put fish in the boat.

Sounds like you have a good head start to your newest addiction! good job
