Well the predictions for the sea were wrong…they were even smoother than projected. It was unbelievably nice out there; I’m convinced that if you could have gotten past the wake of the container ships, then you would have been able to go out trolling on a pontoon. I was shocked to have only seen a handful of boats as well.
The seas couldn’t have been more than 1 ft and the winds held of pretty nice. We ran straight out to about 150’ and dropped lines. BAM - little cow. Threw her back and kept going, picked up another slinger before finding a NICE weedline around 9am. Worked the weedline the rest of the day all the way out to 350’ and back. Picked at the dolphin here and there pretty consistently.
We ended up with about 7 fish in the box with plenty of meat. Threw a few back and lost quite a few as well.
All in all it was a gorgeous day on the pond. Got to go out on a new boat with a new crew as well, so thanks to crnawolfman for calling me and giving me a ride. It was a great time. Hopefully he can follow up with some pictures of the catch since my camera decided to crap out on me.
VERY nice! Thanks for sharing. I’m hoping for good weather and a nice report for Saturday as MY DADDY is coming to go offshore with me! It’ll be a first for him going offshore, and I’m so excited I’m about to bust!

Edited on Wed. AM to clarify it’s Daddy’s first trip…
Pflueger - didn’t top the 37#er, but we live to try again
Optiker - it actually would have been a great day out there for the whaler, if there was a way to get enough gas on board.
I’m not sure about how well saturday is shaping up, but I would bet money that a lot of those weed patches will have a chance to organize and really create some fishy waters. Good luck to everyone going out!
Nice trip, guys! I enjoyed meeting all of you. Great pictures, Dave. That was a beautiful sunrise… of course the vantage point makes a difference too !
