60,commanche 4-22

Went looking for early cobia at the 60 and they were not there. Plenty of AJ’s, and a suprisingly slow BSB bite sent us off to 100 feet. Practiced the trolling spread up to Commanche, nothing. Same once there, no cobia, few BSB, tons of bait. Sent it back in at 35kts, stopping to check the approach bouys. #6 and 7 had AJ’s galore and a few cuda’s.
We ran nearly 100 miles of great circle route for grunts, BSB, donkeys, and ringtails. ouch! When the fish return they’d better be ready to share my pain.
I did learn though. If you’re going to run 100 miles this time of year, send it straight out. Nothing was in 100 feet. And I replaced the trebles on my surface poppers with a single “dancing stinger” hook like the ones from the butterfly jigs. Not only did I get more hookups with the hook riding 1-2" further back but I avoided the terrible treble tangle that always seems to happen.
Going Tuesday to French Broad, any advice?

Thanks for the report still may be a little early in 100ft
