White dish pan sprayed with non stick cooking spray. Fill with water and freeze. The ice pops right out. Re coat dish pan every 3 or 4 times. Leave whole or bust up.

I’m a self proclaimed cooler expert!!

When they say they will “hold ice for five days”, most will, if properly pre-cooled, filled to the max with ice, and never opened. At the end of five days you will find some ice in the cooler.

Close to 20% of your ice is melted “cooling the cooler”. Folks pull a cooler out of the storage building on a 90 degree day, the cooler is 90 degrees, so guess what happens when you dump ice in it? It’s simple science.

Like someone else mentioned, “ice quality” comes into play. There is what I call “warm ice”, and “cold ice”. Believe it or not, some ice is actually colder than other ice. These all translates into the heat exchange process and determines how long your ice will last.

As for value in the Yeti’s, Pelican’s, Orca’s, etc., it’s going to take a while to save enough money in ice to pay for one. What makes them worth their money is the way they’re built, because things just don’t break on them. I gone through a lot of coolers with broken handles, lids, and hinges.

Currently, I own a 35 quart Yeti, and will be adding a 65 quart soon.

This cooler keeps my stuff nice and cold all day.That is all i need.I guess the Yeti guys fish longer then that.If you can afford the best get it.
