60 Reef 8-3-13

Left Remley’s towards Charleston 60 at 6am Saturday morning. Seas weren’t too bad, made it to the reef dry. We were the second boat anchored out and started hooking into Ringtails and Grunts. Really didn’t get bothered this time with too many BSB’s. My buddy was reeling in a fish and his line starting screaming, huge splash at the boat and a BSB head on the hook was all that was left. Don’t know what it was, didn’t see it, happened so fast. Then he caught a shark off the BSB head. Left the 60 and headed toward the nearshore around 11. Found a boat floating about 5 miles from the harbor, couple guys broke down and had been stranded for hours. So I towed them to the nearshore reef, fished for a few hours, and then towed them back in to Remley’s with us. Very long day but a good one. Boat next to us at the 60 was hooking into Amberjack right before we left.

Cuda or shark got your BSB…

Few yrs back during a king tourny, super rough only made to the 60,hook a screamer, got it close thought we had a tourny winning telephone pole king…nope a huge cuda,i mean big…

im pretty sure it was a cuda because the only thing I saw was a long shiny silvery flash when it hit so either that or like a king maybe?

Never eaten a ringtail

That’s cool you towed them to the fishing hole first.

That is one luck guy. Don’t know why you would head offshore w/o seatow or US boats.

A wise man once said “Do as I say not as I do” Good advice when I tell you that.

Yeah I couldn’t leave the guy out there, I wouldn’t wanna be in that situation. I got a little gas money out of it and a nice slow cruise through the harbor.

Ringtails were a pain to clean, I’ve never eaten them before. Anybody have any taste experience on these?

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

I have a video of a big cuda trying to eat a big ring tail boatside… He takes a few bites and changes his mind… I will post it
