Took my whaler to the Ladson launch for its first sea trial this morning. The boat is great! I can’t believe the motor, its really pretty much brand new. Ran perfectly.
I tried several trim settings and I decided that I’m gonna put Smart Tabs on it, because it does porpoise a bit and the bow rise out of the hole also. Also, putting a bilge pump in the transom well will be a good thing as it takes a wave over the transom if you cut the throttle hard. Neither is required, but will add a lot to the performance.

Trailer with mods. I had forgotten to get a pic before loading the boat back on
Sitting at the dock
WOT (max speed with me and a full tank of gas: 31.6 mph via GPS)
brings back a lot of memories!!
that’s the first boat I was ever on. My neighbor in Jersey got it from his father. And he used to take me fishing with him in the backwaters and bays.
Boat looks great. And you are killing me being on the river today while I sit here in an office pushing paper. Let it warm up a bit more and we need to meet at the sandbar down from that landing and compare notes over a cold one (or two).

I had similar problems like you are having with the bow up and transom drop while I would take my jon boat shrimping by myself. I put a Junior StingRay on my 25 Johnson and could cut the throttle and the boat would plane off instead of suddenly dropping. On take off it would plane off faster and keep the bow down. Pretty good when there is 300+lbs in the back of a 14’ jon boat and no one up front.
alright so i saw 66 whaler but i read 66’ Whaler and was like ■■■■ whaler is going out on a limb buildin big boats. haha anyway nice boat, wish they still made em like that. my uncle has the 15’ hull from the 80’ and it so well built. I absolutely love that boat!!!
