7/13 with my Niece

My 10 yr old niece flew down (by herself) from Baltimore to go fishing.

Had a blast and was able to up her personal record from 21" to 28.5"

She is a real sweetie and loves to fish. Can’t wait till she comes back to catch some more.

Brushing up on her cast netting skills

Cast net surprise

Jason’s Lake surprise (juvie gag)

Look at that smile  Showed her how to tag, revive, and release it

That’s awesome! Nothing better than kids loving to fish, and someone showing them how to do it properly! Good job

That’s fantastic. From catching bait, to a healthy release - you showed it all. You’d be hard pressed to find a better way to spend an afternoon and like you said, the smile on her face says it all.

Great job!!!

Great pictures and post, Op! Keep up the good work!

Thanks y’all… You know what’s really great? Hanging out at Jason’s Lake in Botany Bay WMA. If you didn’t know, its a saltwater pond that adults can fish only if they also have a kid fishing. Its 100% catch and release. Trust me, its loaded with fish, and to hear the kids squeal with joy when a fish is caught is priceless. “FISHY!!! FISHY!!!” Sometimes tears (also makes me smile…I have a pic of my oldest son’s first fish and he was crying too), and some just as happy to play in the bait bucket all day. You can’t help but smile just observing what goes on there. Kudos to Botany Bay for making that lake a kids only deal. Pro tip: Go on a high incoming and fish near the pipe. Doormat City!

dooood- thats freaking awesome!

the last few times we’ve been to the lake (since the huge fish kill in February 2012) it has been very slow. might try it this weekend since we’ll be down there.

Awesome Dave! I bet she was excited! Congrats on the personal best.

Op,

Is that place usually covered up with people on the weekends, or is it possible to fish without crossing somebody up (or being crossed up)?

“I’m not a hundred percent in love with your tone right now…”

It’s not too bad. It is now only open Fri-Sun (found out recently) and the pipe is the main spot so you can get crossed up if you make a long cast. Its not bad though. You can now also bring a yak and go out on the pond. That never used to be an option. I’ve yet to try that
