Late report, but here it is-
Left downtown around 5:00am with some good buddies (and a few beers) aboard the good ship Miss Adventure. We had gone out to Morris the evening before and caught plenty of menhaden for bottom fishing later in the day. We ran out about 45-50 miles and got the spread out and running around 7:30 -3 skirt/ballyhoo rigs and 2 pop n chugs. We had a 60lb wahoo hook up about 20 minutes later and he made it into the fish box after several screaming runs and one hell of a fight. We trolled through 1:00 and had already picked up another 40lb Wahoo, so we were eating fish for dinner! We also caught a few smaller barracuda.
We switched gears and targeted Grouper. We got 3 nice scamps, the biggest of which was around 20lbs or so. There were tons of jolts and it was all we could do to get through them and find the grouper.
Several sharks of various sizes and species popped up including a hammerhead that had to be over 7’.
We also saw a whale! An Atlantic Right Whale surfaced about 1/2 mile from us and it was amazing to see a creature of that size!
It was a great day with friends and the icing on the cake was that I was heading back out again the next day (see my next report)!
Fish on!
