7/19:
Started off in hopes of trolling. Found a great weed line near bubble rock and picked off 8 slingers. Saw a ton of nice dolphin 15 feet underwater but wouldn’t hit anything. We were dropping live cigar minnows next to them and they wouldn’t even acknowledge it. Went searching for new grouper spots. Started off every drop with either a 250 pound shark or an amberjack. Finally found a good ledge and had a grouper almost every drop. Finished the day with 12 grouper, 8 dolphin, and a bunch of snapper.
7/20:
Figured why waste time trolling all day so went grouper fishing again. That decision payed off very good. Started fishing at 830 and we were back at the dock at 1 with limits. Caught two scamps one being 35 inches and another at 37 inches. After catching limits of grouper we switched to squid for the snapper. Sure enough we doubled up with 2 cuberas around 15-20 pound range. First time ever catching one of those. Finished the day with 12 grouper, 2 Cubera snapper, and a bunch of vermillion.
7/21:
And we went bottom fishing again. Fished some numbers in 300-400ft to switch it up. That’s some hard stuff all day with out an electric feel haha. First drops were all grouper. Tax man moved in and cut us off. Gave him 30 minutes and started fishing again. Caught a lot of 20 inch fish that we realeased yesterday. Caught limits of grouper by 2 and some of the biggest silver snapper I’ve ever seen. Finished the day with 9 grouper, 10 silvers, and one nice snowy.
Sorry I didn’t get many pics, capt wanted fish on ice.
those are mangrove snappers, (**() big one but mangroves.

They could be either. Have to look at roof of mouth to tell, but we have both here. I would tend to believe that his guess (cubera) is the most likely.
definitely mangrove…shot 100’s of them between here and the bahamas but only a few cubera…definitely some of the biggest i’ve ever seen…congrats guys…great scamps too!!! i’m running a 35 contender…curious to catch up w/ u all on what your fuel econ, props, etc…
Man, you are destroying it. Incredible work. Like someone said earlier on this website, the weather has been a virtual closure up until recently… If only i didnt work 80 hr weeks now… Ill have some time off in august right about when the fishing gets really slow

Man, you guys are good. One appears to have a blunt nose:
They are mangroves… Looked at the cuberas right after the first comment on here. I Definitely would have remembered those teeth like a Cubera has, which the “mangroves” I caught did not. Killing me like crazy now. Tried to weigh one of our scamps for state record when I should have weighed the other two snapper haha. Both of those fish were over 12.12 easily. One on the bottom we guessed at 20. Sorry for not believing that. Just never in my life have seen a mangrove that size.

Again…without looking at the roof of the mouth I’d wager that 9 in 10 couldn’t distinguish between the 2. But, you’ve got a 50/50 chance of being right so keep up the guesses!

Guesses are good and then mother nature in her infinite wisdom throws you a knuckleball:
