Had a college friend bring his son down for his first trip offshore. Fished some numbers in 100 feet. The ocean was not cooperative but the fish were. Really sloppy until noon then it calmed down some. At least a dozen snapper with a few big ones, most on live menhaden. Triggerfish and sea bass all day on squid. Once the guest of honor saw the big snapper he fished the live bait rod the rest of the day and got to battle four amberjack and a nice gag. Once it calmed down some I started tossing a live menhaden off the back in a spinning reel at the start of every drift and was rewarded with a big King mackerel that my friends son got to catch. Made several huge runs before posing for photos and being released. The thing I love most about fishing is bringing new people out on the ocean, particularly kids, and putting them on fish so it was a great day. Big fish fry last night with way too much wine and sat around the dinner table until almost midnight. One of those days that you remember for a long time.
