After a short season riddled with choppy seas, we were really excited and hopeful the weatherman was right this time. Wrong again weatherman… looked like 3 feet at about 3 seconds.
anyway enough about that… we came out of the stono inlet around 7:30 to find the chop that would keep me at about 15 kts. meanwhile keeping in mind the stress cracks from the last trip… we worked out to around 75 feet and we went ahead and set the trap. nothing for the first good while, I was sure we would see the normal trash fish at least. nothing
we turned around and trolled back to the only bait that we had seen and picked up a dolphin, a short while later a king. after that it became very slow again, we were all wondering if we should bottom fish but there were three of us so we trolled on. Finally the 50 with the magnum hoo goes off zzzzzzzzzzzz … pulls the hook Crap! then the short rigger zzzzzzzzzz spits the bait, I reach and knock Pats reel into freespool…wait… wait… NOW back into strike, it comes tight! ends up being a small gaffer but we were three happy guys on yet another tough fishing day. we stopped trolling and goofed of with some bottom fishing for a long drift toward the hill.
This was a day filled with fun, a lot of ipod music, cold beer, good friends, and God’s beautiful Ocean !!!
Thank you Lord!
