I took my girlfriend, Northchucky, and his wife out for a fun day of bottom fishing and we had a great time. We were hooking up on BSB and vermillion on every drop but the amberjack were really giving us hell. Most fish we couldn’t get to the boat before an AJ would whack it and the fish we did land often were gummed up pretty bad. Northchucky and I ended up taking turns landing good sized AJ for every decent bottom fish we got into the boat. There were some cobia with the AJ and one we very nearly hooked but the AJ were on the bait first even though I landed it near its nose.
I believe that the problems with the AJ was because they were stirred up by the half dozen boats kingfishing all around us. Was there a tournament today?
I may go diving tomorrow so I hope to follow with a report with some pictures of quality meat fish.
Northchucky on his 10th AJ of the day. Great guy to have on the boat and very helpful. Not to mention he and his wife brought some awesome eats!

She caught this too but I reeled it in because we thought it was yet another amberjack.
Good quick release and it swam away strong so I can catch it during our two day season…
