7/27 Stono & Ashley, 7/28 Stono

Saturday 7/27, I fished the rising in the Stono River from about 8am-1pm without any luck (except blue crabs…) I tried several different spots in the main river, docks, & a creek mouth using live mud minnows on the bottom in deep or shallow water & under a popping cork near the grass lines

Determined not to get skunked, I went back out to fish low tide staying out from about 6pm until around 9:30pm, this time in the Ashley River, heading out about low tide, came back about 1/2 risen.
@ dead low, i was tossing my carolina rigged mud minnow in deep water & hooked a stingray, fun battle, but not what i was after. I wanted fish tacos dammit! the tide started to turn & we weren’t having any luck in deep water or the mud flat, so i moved into a creek & out of the main Ashley River, we found lots of bait in a mouth a couple bends up the creek so decided that would be as good a spot as any. no luck under a popping cork, so i swapped to carolina rig, & finally small success! I landed the 1st fish on my jon boat, an undersided trout, released to grow into a keeper. I kept tossing to the same grass line, & after a few minutes, I landed a keeper trout. kept at it for another 20 min or so with no more luck so headed home

7/28 fished the stono again, this time on the falling tide, different spots than 7/27, but still no luck. this time i was using live shrimp then doa shrimp, fished some creek mouths, a flat, & some docks. I’m fairly new to the inshore fishing thing, so i have been trying to do something different each time i go out, taking mental note of what works & what doesn’t. hopefully one day I’ll get out there & catch something worth a photo lol

Your weekend sounds very similar to mine, I fished the Ashley Saturday morning and didn’t have much luck. I worked a few creek mouths and then actually got up into a creek and caught a nice sized flounder on a paddle tail with a jig head. But very good post! And good luck out there!

Chevyrulz, did you get to make a fish taco out of the keeper trout? I’m also new to inshore fishing and I’ve had about the same kind of luck you’ve had. I haven’t caught any trout yet, but I catch whiting on the Stono pretty regularly and of course lots of crabs. The only flounder I’ve caught was smaller than the palm of my hand and it was caught in my cast net while I was trying to catch shrimp and minnows for bait.

ifishcharleston, what color paddle tail were ya using?

Pink, no not yet, i was starving when i got home late, so i wrapped 'em in saran wrap & tossed 'em in the freezer with my blue crabs to eat another day

Ha sounds like my luck. except i cant land anything to keep. tryin to learn also. by whats supposed to work im doing everythin right. only the scalewears dont seem to agree

pink…if you can throw a cast net you’re off to a better start then most lol
