7/28

After several months of lurking, I figure it is time for me to say hello and post a fishing report.

Left out of MI at noon, flat seas, running between 45 and 48 mph, to the GT Hole.

2 Gaffer phins, 7 blackfin tuna boated, 1 smoker king (25# range), 1 bonita (kept for shark bait) and one HUGE marlin showed himself behind the boat for a few glorious seconds - he didnt like what we were offering. We had a few short strikes, and lost a huge fish after it chopped off the leader. The tuna were breaking water in the afternoon, and were hitting everything we had - sea witches, bubblers and the green machine were hot!

We made it home just at sunset, 55 - 58 mph.

Tight lines,
Jason

Congrats on those tunas. Might want to think about releasing fish that size in the future.

Short grass and tight lines, make a man feel so fine!

nice post. glad to see there are still some dolphin around!and i’ll bet those tuna will cook up just fine.

just wondering, did you catch any of those on the downriggers?

We caught all of our fish on the surface. We had trolling weights which didnt see any action. I didnt put out the downriggers for this trip.

By the way, we only keep what we were going to eat. It has become ritual to bring out the cast iron skillet on the turkey frying burner while the boat is being cleaned. I am long past freezing my fish! The king was kept for dog food.

Tight lines.

Nice king. They eat suprisingly well if you know someone that can cook them!

Welcome to the site! Thanks for posting. Great catch.

Please understand that there is a population of people that get off trying to take away from someones day of fishing. It helps them compensate for their tiny little… well nevermind.

Thanks for the report!! Glad to see someone is catching something on the troll.

Set the trap boys, we going to pass through them again!!

Nice! Thanks for sharing and welcome!

Let’s see…false albacore, king mackeral, & blackfin. Out of those 3 I sure as hell wouldn’t throw back the tuna!!!

Nice report from a fellow lurker!
Don’t let the haters hate and try grilling your next King (although I know nothing abut your relationship with the dog, mine talk my into giving them perfectly luxurious food all the time, so…). The are a fatty/oily fish, like sardines, and grill up great. Can even eat the skin.

This is a fishing website and people are continuosly getting blasted for their catch. Before long this won’t be a problem because the reports will stop.

The crew looks happy and this is a tough time of year to fish. Way to go. Thanks for the report.
