7.3 mpg question

I have a 2000 f250 7.3. i do regular maint and have yet to have a problem. i feel like i am getting worse mpg lately. i change my fuel fiter every oil change and run fuel additive every fill up. i feel like i am getting about 10-12 mpg not towing what are u others getting? i have 140k and its 2wd. Any ideas for you diesel owners that own this truck. i have had it about 2 years and love it way more than my 2006 duramax so i plan on keeping it forever. thanks for the help

I have a 1996 f 250 7.3 diesel 2 wheel drive with 235,000 miles. I use it for towing boats and a 16,000 pound fifth wheel. I get 16-18 around town and 21-23 on the Interstate . I drive 8-10 miles over the speed limit on the Interstate, if I drove 55 I could get over 25 mpg. Pulling the fifth wheel she gets 10-14 depending on the terrain.
What rear end to you have in your F 250 mine is a 3.73. A friend of mine has a 410 in his and gets 12-14 on the Interstate. Fantastic truck!

Our 03 F250 started getting bad mileage and I changed the air filter which was clogged up. The mileage has increased a good bit since then.

Nothing makes a fish bigger than almost being caught.

Two things they can’t live with out and that’s air and fuel with the proper mixture. A dirty filter restricts the amount of air and increases the amount of fuel used. Almost forgot, I did modify the air box on my 7.3 doing away with the OEM and installing a NAPA 5026(?) air filter. Increased mileage, performance and I can really hear the turbo spooling now. Did the same on my 350 Z roadster when I installed a wolf popper cold air induction.

There’s a youtube video under something like “ford 7.3 superduty repair” that has this guy showing how to remove a fuel line and clean it out with a big pipe cleaner. He says that over time crap builds up there causing poor mileage. I’m gonna try it, but first I have to replace my ball joints and u-joints.

thanks for the responses, air filter is good its k and n and i recharge it regularly. i will look into the fuel line cleaning. i think u might be referring to the EBPS cleaning but ill do some more research. thanks for the responses
