7-30 Trolling

Took a friend from college who had never caught a fish offshore. Dropped lines shallow (ocean not flat enough to drink beer while underway) and trolled out.

Pulled the double dredges & circle hooks all day. Caught a lot of trash fish with some good meat mixed in. Not sure on the species, but there was a ton of annoying little brown sharks attacking the bait (and even a remora). And of course some cudas.

Pushed out to 300’ where we found some good sailfish action, and trolled around quite a few sporties in the Edisto tournament. We pulled off one sail, and had some more suspicious billfish bites but no confirmation…

Ended up with 2 gaffers, 1 blackfin, & 1 king. Had a friend on board take some awesome shots, enjoy.

Great pics of the fish and sportys! Congrats. How deep was the king swimming?

-Wishes Charlotte was 3 hours closer to the ocean…-

Love that picture of the green blob underwater… Reminds me of so many times trolling when you realize you have a good sized dolphin on.

Kayak, SCUBA, or both.

Thanks guys. A friend took the pics, “Shallow H2O Images”.

The king was caught a couple mile shy of the ledge in approx. 130’-140’. I spotted a giant king launch an easy 15’ out of the water while trolling, it was awesome to see.

Jordan–I love the “green blob” also!

Cool pics. I think I like the TLD one the best. How big was the king?

Thanks–the TLD is my new desktop backgound at work. The king was just shy of 20 lbs (unofficial guestimate). Some crew members were calling mid to high twenties, but after fishing Miracles for so many years I knew better!

I will tell you for sure it made about two gallons of DELICIOUS smoked fish dip!
