Went out with captain Greg and crew for a dive only trip for Independence Day. Did our first drop on some live bottom and couldn’t get away from the schools of snapper easily 20lbs+. They were following us around like amberjack but much more friendly. All grouper there were short so we shot some sheepshead and enjoyed the dive. Busted my hand pulling a stuck anchor so I sat out the last dives but it was still a great day. After that we hit the Comanche ship but there were some free divers that pulled up right when we did. We tried to see if we could share the wreck but with the current it wasn’t happening so we bowed out and headed to the Y-73. We did an anchor dive on the wreck after dropping the anchor right on the deck and sent down 4 divers. There were some nice cobia on the wreck but we didn’t send down the heavy guns so they got to live. The huge Goliath grouper is still in the wheel house so if you dive it stay out of his way. He is very grumpy. The girlfriend caught a few monster seabass between dives so that’s going on the grill later tonight with some fresh garden veggies. Not a bad way to spend the middle of the week!
I need some help identifying a sea creature that came up on an anchor we salvaged. It is some type of starfish but it felt like thorns. It was moving in a very creepy twitchy way and no one wanted to touch it. Pictures at the bottom of this report.
