Fished outgoing tide yesterday. After covering myself in mud throwing a cast net that’s twice the size of me, i finally caught enough pinfish/shrimp/blue crab to have a good afternoon of live bait. After being skunked for an hour or two, finally hooked up on a float with shrimp to a rat red. It was the first fish ive caught in the last three times out, so i was surprisingly happy to see the little bugger on my hook. Girlfriend calls up and says “dinners ready, where are you?!”. Of course im covered in mud and i see blues and small trout flopping everywhere. I throw one last cast in and land one of the biggest bluefish ive ever fought. Although not a successful day to most, i skipped to that dinner table with a big smile on my face. I smelled like pluff mud, and thats a lot better smell then skunk.
Congrats on your day. Sounds VERY succesful to me. Any day that puts enough spring in your step to skip to the dinner table is a good one.
One thing to keep in mind…when using blue crabs for bait they still need to be of legal size. I’m sure all of yours were…this is more as just a general statement for all. If the man checks you and you have juvenile blue crabs in your bait tank you WILL get fined.
If you’re not effecting the world around you in a positive manner…you’re taking up too much space.
Thanks Mombakc. Yea just caught one Blue crab that was a monster. All others thrown back in to be cooked another day.
Going out Sunday AM on the wando early to hopefully grab some sheeps. I have a great little bait creek I found. Would trade the creek location for a redfish hole
Happy fishing yall.

Hey Beach, I know the smell of skunk all too often. I envy the guys that report catching 10 - 20 fish in a day but, I have gotten to the point that I understand that each trip out is a learning experience and any fish caught is a good thing. My son and I went out last Friday. He caught his 1st ever red, I caught my 1st ever fish on artificial bait and we were in kayaks for the first time. For me it was a successful day and it was spent on the water, not at work. Keep at it, each day will get better.
