Left out of gtown around 4:00. lines in at 110 ft headed for the ledge. Nothing! Headed south to the hole, couple short strikes, but nothing in the box. We decided to go deep. Around 500 ft, down rigger starts singing. One of the dedicated crew members, Trey was determined to reel in this fish. After reeling for 30 minutes and getting a cool shower in the process theres the shark. Got all the lines back in the water, out to 1100 ft before the next action. Center way back starts screaming and get a glimpse of a billfish. After reeling for 20 -25 minutes got the marlin beside the boat for pics and video, let him go for a safe release. Shortly after pulled lines and headed in.
It was kinda hard to see in the video, but it looked like the top of the dorsal was more rounded and had like a blunt tip, where a blue’s dorsal comes to a fine point at the top. Either way, you caught a marlin, so congrats!
