7/9 straight out.

Fished straight out. Left the dock around 6:30, typical little rougher closer to shore then smoothed right out. Dropped the high speed lures in 130 ft and trolled out to about 150. No weeds, no breaks, fliers mixed here and there. 200 ft had 1 cut off and 2 short strikes. Trolled out to 300 ft with no action. Couple other boats seemed to be searching too and the radio reports were about the same. Turned around and headed back to the only bites of the day. At this point it’s about 12:30. Things are looking grim, crew is looking bored. Back between 200 and 150 ft we caught 3 gaffers. Called it a day and pointed the washtub home. Water temp read 80 all day long, no birds, no weeds.

Cool…no CG or Police escorts home this time…i would consider that a good trip…

Much better this time around. Did have a brand new battery go south on me though. I hate shutting the motor off that far out for just that reason. It’s always something, guess that’s why you have two though.

Think you guys ran out with me. Same ocean , same report.
Couple small knocks and then a monster bull in 185 ft.
4 or 5 cudas no more dolphin then stopped on way home fished i 95 feet
and caught some meat fish and a few ramora on lite tackle at the boat.
I was the 2870 pursiut hardtop.

Same report I was the idiot in the sea pro sv1900… Headed out the Jetties towards Comanche then headed SE and found a line in 135’… Light troll with two skirts out and back to back strikes one short strike and landed on 40" phin… Rigged back up re ran the line and then had a cuda hit… Headed out to 205’ and nothing going and headed in by 1130/12…

I have been trolling between 5-7mph is that a good speed for a skirted ballyhoo?

Yeah, we were trolling next to a pursuit now that I think of it… Nice rig.

Hookem, that’s what I troll ballyhoo at, somewhere around 1500 rpms. I kinda vary it a little until I like the way the baits are swimming. I think it has more to do with that than actually hitting a magic speed that turns the fish on.

Karl are you sure your suspected battery problem is not wiring…? I had some corrosion on one of my wiring harnesses and it caused some major problems.

Funny, you mention that. I found last night that all the crimps on my battery cables are no good. Looks like they crimped them with a vice and then heat shrinked them. No solder no real crimping tool used. I pulled two out with my hand last night. Ugh!! Losing faith in my boat. Ran it for 3 yrs with no problems the last 6 months it’s been non stop. Wires broke inside the insulation, pumps breaking, bad crimps. I’m pretty deligent about trying to maintain this thing too.

Oh and while I’m thinking about it. Blue/white islanders were the hot or should I say luke warm baits of the day. Imagine that…

Wiring sucks one most boats from the factory. Mine is a mess on my pioneer under the console. I am about to get everything fixed up when I install a new lowrance unit.

Karl, what kind/ size boat you running?

Pretty sure it was me in the pursuit. Had my 15 yr old son w me for his first offshore trip. Glad to say he caught a Wahoo and couple decent dolphin. Lost a couple nice fish caught a few bonito and barracuda. Had a WM hit for a couple of sec’s. had a hard time driving rigging gaffing and coaching. Not bad for first trip! Were going again wed. Seas look real good!
