7 Fish on 07/07/07

Pushed off at 6:15 headed staight out running 30mph. Stopped and put lines in at 80’. Before we had two lines in we had a nice dolphin one peelin line. Picked up one more dolphin and a king and a bonito. Picked up and headed to the ledge to try to box a wahoo. Stopped at 180 feet and while putting the first line in it went screaming. Pretty sure it was a wahoo. Anyway before we could see it it spit the hook. Picked up two more nice kings. While landing the second one the gaff slipped out of my hand and bobbed for a second and then went staright to the bottom. So then we had no choice but to make every fish slinger. Anyway we ran back in and picked up one more dolphin.

happened to me last year… kinda… my brother gaffed a nice kingfish and on the way up it kicked, he sliped and let go. I jumped over and went for a swim and made it there just as it was headed down about 6 ft under. So now I have a float and grip tape on my Gaff and bring a small collapsable one just in case.
