We got a late start ended up getting on the water at 8:15 and hit 150 feet by 9:45. Went through Comanche straight out to 150 feet. Started the troll and was running in the 150 to 130 feet of water. The action was slow. I think I should have trolled out further but I elected to troll to the shallow water. My fish senses must have been off. Had a few short strikes and a few that I just plain lost. It was just me and the future wife so my crew was limited to just two people. At this point all we had landed were a couple of barracudas that she got to the boat. Well then it was my turn the rear short line screamed off. I ran from the wheel to grab it but it got off. At that exact second the other rear short line went off and bam set the hook as the fight was on. It took about 20 minutes to get him to the boat. Once I saw it was a Wahoo I was determined to get in the boat. Now I am not the world greatest fisherman and even worse on the gaffing. He ran 1 more time after I saw him but I got him back to alongside the boat and wham first try with the gaff and we was mine. After that just a few more barracudas so we decided to call it and road back in at 35. Not a bad day. I feel pretty lucky because I got the Wahoo on mono dressed with a pink and white squitch. Can’t wait to go out again but the weather this year hasn’t given me many days. Good news is the wife to be loved it and is excited to go again. Got myself two keepers that day LOL.
A few pics of the Wahoo. Not amazing by the others I have seen on here but pretty good for me.
