Made it out to 100’ in questionable weather but the boat handled it good. Had a little trouble getting on the hook but we got it done. Middle of the day got a lot better and we caught our fish. Didn’t really get any good pics of the lot. One of the triggers was a gaffer. Caught one leather jacket mystery too. Saw the George Bush carrier and heard our first Sonic boom. Good day with an old friend.
That last fish is a unicorn file fish.

Well Ive never gaffed a trigger, but that was some fine placement.
Well I got to admit, I didn’t think y’all were going to make it.Good job on pushing through it and getting your snapper.
Nice box of groceries!
Agree with 7cs - good shot.
Using 6/0 hooks we often foul hook triggers in the skin or outer lips - gaff insures not tearing it if ya try to yank it up & in with the leader.
That unicorn file fish is great food!
I’m sure everybody’s caught a bigger trigger than that but it was my best so far. Turned loose the unicorn. Didn’t know the regs. Never caught or even seen one before.
Being superstitious is bad luck.

I don’t believe there is an established size/creel limit on Unicorn filefish in SC. I’ve never eaten one but I’ve heard they are outstanding table fare.

Makes sense. I guess I’ve been lucky. I’ve never foul hooked one.
Squared-off tail suggests a gray tile fish and a very big one at that. Food value may depend on how hungry you are…
Sorry for the goof, that’s a file fish.
