Decided to leave later than usual to let the weather pattern develop since it looked like a change was happening overnight. Not too bad a ride out in a 20ft CC. Got out to the numbers and we were on Beelines right away along with BSB. Did some drifts looking for Triggers with no luck. Decided to move a little deeper and hit the Pink’s but still no Triggers:question: Hit a few more spots with no luck. Did notice we were catching a large number of sharks that we normally do not catch in that location.
Question; will the large number of sharks move the fish off that reef?
Ended the day with limits on Pinkies and Beelines, three triggers
and some nice BSB.
Glad ya’ll got out there at least. I was at home with my sick little guy fighting a nasty stomach bug, . Sent you another PM. Did ya’ll free line baits? We’ve been using some Marsh Tacky stuff to get livies behind the boat while anchored. Easy stuff to use for boats like ours, like storing a bream buster almost when not needed! I’ll post next trip.
Sounds like a good time, I am hoping to get out there soon. Just need to work up the nerve and have all the stars align to take the boat out that far!
Just out of curiosity, how many gallons of fuel does your boat hold? I have a SeaFox 209 Commander and I am wondering if I would have any problems going 40 miles offshore with my 61 gallon tank.
There is a lot to take in account. Total run around 100 miles dock to dock. I have a 20 ft cc with a 150 Yamaha. Had 3 guys at 250 lbs ea. ran out at an average of 19 mph against the seas. Ran back at 26 mph with seas. For me it was about 30 gallons. Fuel always depends on how hard you push your boat and seas conditions and # of passengers.

Thanks for the info! I know I don’t want to push the boat to hard, especially when I haven’t been offshore in it yet. I am hoping one day the weather will be awesome and I can partner boat with somebody just in case something happens. Not gonna say anything that will jynx it, but I am thinking in the very near future of trying to go! Hopefully this stinkin weather will cooperate!!

FWIW, I have a 20’ CC with a F150. A few weeks ago, I ran 109 miles total (including drift; actual 80 miles “driving”). My motor was on from 0600 to 1630. I hold 60gal and had two guys fishing and about 200# of ice. I burned 27gal that day.

Wow that extra fat guy cost me 3 gallons of gas:smiley:
HAHAHA! Thanks again for the info guys! I am slowly getting myself more and more comfortable going offshore. Hoping a buddy of mine can tag along next time the weather nice since he has experience offshore with his 25’.
I posted in the fishing match up, figured I would ask y’all if anyone wanted to buddy boat on Friday or come along on my boat to help me get comfortable out there. I was thinking if the weather holds out I would leave buckhall and head out to Capers Reef and if I still feel comfortable heading out to maybe the y-73 area. If you ride along on my boat I won’t ask for anything other than you bringing your fishing rods and anything that makes your life easier that an inexperienced guy wouldnt have. Thanks!
Also I want to apologize to oops_lost for high jacking his thread!
I just love the tv survival show “fat guys in the woods”, but pushing weight thru water costs fuel. I used to fish with a really fat guy like 500 lbs+ and he carried enough food that would last me a week! It took longer to get the boat to plane , and if he moved around the tab settings had to be changed. . I know why some airlines want to charge by the LB. 500+ lbs increases the fuel consumption. I often wondered what would happen if he fell overboard. No way I could lift him back into the boat. Id have to tow him home
Thats awesome, now if the weather would just settle down so I can give it a go! The weather reports changed again, looks like today was possible after all dang it!
