Rolled out yesterday with Overdraft225, Dandy Randy, and Tony the Tiger for a day of bottom fishing or so we hoped. Left Remleys at first light and were greeted to a nasty storm just offshore. Decided to just hang out and try to find live bait as we waited out the storm. Found a livewell full of pogies in the usual harbor spot, then eased out of the jetties. Pulled up around the 2nd can as the storm hadn’t passed yet (never good when you see a sporty just chilling, assessing the situation). Just hung out and trolled plugs around as the ocean was very confused. Tons of bait and Spanish in the vicinity of the 2nd can. never hooked up but fun to see Spanish going to town on bait
Storm finally passed and the ocean laid down nice. Hit up a set of cans and quickly loaded up on hardtails. Rolled out to our bottom spot as we were all thankful for a break in the weather. Immediately started loading up on big pinkies, beeliners, seabass, and an occasional trigger. Big Fish Randy soon lived up to his nickname and boxed a nice scamp
At this point I couldn’t get a chicken rig past the beeliners, so it was time to hunker down with live bait and see what I could get. Hardtails started going down… these started coming up:
Vented, and released several NICE red snappers as well and had some help from jaws releasing the largest red snapper I’ve ever seen later in the day [:0]
We knew there were afternoon storms brewing so we pulled up lines early and headed to the hill. Actually dodged all the rain until we were halfway through the harbor. I want to give a big thanks to Ben for being a heck of a captain and getting us home safe and sound. Good trip, good crew, good times.
Success:
