Hit the same flat that has been producing. The fish didn’t show up until close to high tide around 7.45 and I was about to leave when I looked over and saw three reds doing headstands close to the grass.

My first shot and the fish ate but I pulled the fly out of his mouth. He bailed but the two others were still there eating. The closest of the two was working his way towards me and I made two good casts and thought he was right on top of it but nothing. He got so close he finally saw me and spooked, leaving a long, long wake across the flat. Third fish was gone too at that point

Kept walking along the grass and then saw another three of four fish tailing 5 minutes later. Crept up to them and took a shot at the closest and put it about 3 feet past him with the intent of stripping it across his nose. But, he turned and started working towards me. Cast again in front of him but he swam right over it.

The water was getting deep and he disappeared for a few seconds. I then notice the fish is right freaking next to me, like 10 feet away. I stripped all my line in and just had the leader hanging off the rod tip, reached the rod out as far as I could and just dropped the fly right in front his face. didn’t have to cast…can’t believe he did not see me, but as soon as the fly hit the bottom he inhaled it and was off to the races. The fish took me all the way to my backing on a great run. He was about 27" and had some shoulders.

Had one more shot at a fish in heavy grass on the way out, but could not get the fly stay in the water, just too much grass.

Wish I had a picture because the sunset was beautiful, but I was in such a hurry to get there I forgot it!

Glad you caught them. The flats i have been to all week, the fish are not tailing. I am going to give it a go tomorrow agian.
