Headed out of Murrells Inlet on Saturday Morning looking to put a few reds in the boat. We had planned on fishing around the jetty on Saturday but the weather didn’t cooperate, as the wind and waves were a bit much for our skiff to handle. We headed back into the inlet to hit some docks with our SideVu sonar to see if we could figure out how to use it with little luck. Fishing-wise, we lost an upper-slot red right at the boat, boated a 16 inch flounder, and broke off a big bull red at the jetty once the wind calmed down (we didn’t see the fish to verify for sure that it was a redfish, but a bull red bite is fairly unmistakable). Also caught a baby grouper and a baby cobia, told them both to grow a little bit then come back and see us
All bites were on live mullet.
Nothing wrong with a trip like that… Good times!

Nice trip! Did you make any progress with the sonar? I’ve been messing with my SI a bit but haven’t gotten past being able to pick out pilings that I know are there.

You can have it fast, right, or cheap. Pick two.
I didn’t make as much progress as I thought I had DirtMike, I went to Optiker’s blog post about improving Side Imaging Clarity and watched the entire seminar that he used to fix his as well. I tried changing up the settings, but even when I thought I had it dialed in correctly I still had clarity issues. All I could see were the thinnest of dark lines where I knew dock post shadows should be. I guess that just goes to show you’ve got everything figured out right up until you get on the water. Going to try to go to Greenwood around some bridges and see if I can get it dialed in a little better before I make my next saltwater trip.

I’ve been working hard with side scan. Just don’t seem to be able to master it.
I’ve caught one of them cinder block fish before. I let mine go
