Decided to make a run with Sells and Roger (aka rhuse) We grabbed some bait right off the beach and headed out. As we start to make our approach to our 1st area there is a storm brewing. We make a slight turn and go around. We decide we would slow troll from some kings with only one knock down… Stinking Cuda… Storm gone and the seas laying down a bit we decided to make a run for it. Hit the numbers and 1st drop a short Gag. I dropped down and bam brought my 1st gag to the boat 18 lbs.
One more was caught. We played around with the other bottom dwellers getting a limit of Pinkys and B-liners. a couple of triggers and I then tried to beat Paul’s state record white grunt. He looked over and said “get that in the boat now” You might have the new record". Well fells and ladies we DO NOT have a new record. mine was 3 lbs 12.6 oz. (looked bigger in the water.) Caught 3 short Reds

Well now for the daymaker for Roger. He kept feeding this one fish and losing it. Well it bit and took off. Three trips around the boat and a ???lbs sandbar shark was brought to the boat. The next thing we hear is “I’m spent” That shark did me in.

Great day guys thanks for the great trip and a new friend.

“You are the offspring of 5 monkeys having But Secs with a retarded fish squirrel………. CONGRADULATIONS”!!!

Assuming your shark identification was correct, don’t ask me cause 95% of them all look the same as far as I am concerned, but you DID catch the SC state record sandbar shark!

This was not put on a scale. And I am not a human scale. I dont judge fish. Lets just say so there is no confusion it was ONE BIGG ASS SHARK. Biggest Sandbar I have EVER seen

Edited to say … We didnt have a permit for sharks so it wasnt coming on the boat even if it was a state record.

Hey Haz and Sells. You guys rock and yes after that Sandbar finished taking me for a walk around the 23 footer boat 3 1/2 times I was Spent and PROUD to admit it.

I learned a lot from both of you and I really do appreciate you guys letting me tag along with you. That was one He!! of a great day. I can not thank you both enough for your hospitality and allowing me to feel like a member of the team right away. By the way you forgot to mention the cow we caught. It is great when you can be on a boat for a day and have 2 new friends.

Ready to do it again and do some more battle with Mr. Sandbar!! But the Gag, Scamp and Mah Hi are going to be tasty on the grill tonight!! Thanks again.

And as Paul would say “Fresh Water’s for drinking and saltwater is for fishing”

Sounds like a nice day guys.

Daniel, I got to thinking about the catch of the shark. And while that fish did hit my rod, that was a catch for the boat because it took all 3 of us to get him to the side of the boat. And Paul, thanks for coaching me thru the whole thing, and dealing with the hand line to get him within photo range. So it’s not really my fish but OUR fish. That’s a day I will never forget. Thanks again guys!!

ID was correct, the fish was at or real close to 2 bills! If he had an HMS, it would have hit the dock.

Lots of different sharks in the record book, I personally cannot tell the difference in all of them. Lemon, sandbar, spinner, finetooth, black tip… look very much alike to me. Did not mean to imply that you don’t know the difference. You seemed to be jacked up about a state record white grunt but had no problem letting the state record shark go hence the reason of my comment.

Great catch, great day!

Behind this helm stands a sickness that not even a women can cure.

No HMS on the boat, couldnt keep if we wanted to due to that fact. And we didnt even know the state recordd weight was on a sandbar. We would have loved to have brought it in and ate it.

Scoutin, It comes down to the fact that we had SellsFish on the boat with us and he has worked on many commercial fishing boats all his lfe, and he knows his fish. Thats it. Just sounded like you were questioning it before the pictures were even posted. Had we had an HMS permit we would have had the fish weighed in and that would have determined if I broke the State Record or not. No big deal though, we had a GREAT DAY FISHING by ALL, and in the end that is really all that matters.
