8 July Fussy Cobia

Spent a few hours collecting bottom fish.
Got a few menhaden out by Morris LH and a variety @ the channel markers.

We had a Cobia sniffing around long enough to toss it an assortment of baits. Kept a trigger and pinky in the water close to the boat to keep it’s interest. Chunks of menhaden, squid - not interested, live menhaden, pinfish and yellowtailed somethings - no thankx, 4th live fish tossed out (while the others were scrambling under the boat to hide) lasted 3 seconds! The Cobia swam the length of the boat and 50 feet away with the lizard fish inside. Also had 40# fluoro instead of 80# mono on that one…
28# on the old brass scale. Long as it’s legal, keep what bait ya catch, never know what the game out there is eating on.

Several other major fighters hooked up but it was day one for for the kids handling the rods…who knows what they were? Big enough fights to need to leave the rod in the holder. Sharp teeth, bent & broken hooks (Gamagatsu 6/0 circles). Brandon, Maggie & Knight got their share of Orange, Pink, Gray and Black. Also ate more food that I expected!

Love to see the kids out there catching

Family fun! Nice!!! Never seen a baby tiger like that. Guess they all start out that small at some point!!!

Yes, sharks released with some bling in their lips.
Kids wanted teeth but weren’t too excited about operating the channel-locks.

Looks like a fun day!

I want to catch them all

Sounded like a fun day. If you don’t mind me asking , how far out were you? I’m not looking to steal your honey hole I just want to know if it is 10 miles or Gulfstream. Thanks!

S-Drag,
Nothing Top Secret for bottom critters: Y-73 area.
Drifted across several bottom structures until we got triggers then moved back up the drift line to set the anchor in clear bottom.
Saw a few boats by Comanche area.

Nice Sandbar as well. Tigers can have about 60-70 babies at a time so it is amazing we don’t see more juvies like that .

Nice haul!

Looked like a great day on the water with the kids. congrats. It’s a fact…cobia love lizard fish! Had one almost come in the boat while pulling up a lizard. Scared the crap out of us!
